more winter problems

You know what sucks? Trying to pee outside in the winter.

It’s a lot more complicated for the ladies. It’s really hard to find a private place to take a leak when all the trees are barren. If it’s frigid out, like it was last week, then you have a bunch of layers to unwrap and re-wrap, and your tookus freezes while you try to aim away from the three layers of long underwear/pants. And I won't even get into when you have your period...

I often find neat little urine holes in the snow where the guys have just taken a leak right next to where they were sampling. Must be nice!

I'm fortunate to usually work someplace where there aren't many people around. Even on a drill rig, I can just drive down the dirt road a bit and use my truck as a shield. Also, desert non-cover has gotten me trained in being pretty fast - except all those winter layers. No way to be fast with all the winter layering one needs.

I feel bad for you and your field-peeing sitch. As a guy, I just have to watch for hawks and other birds of prey; lest they think they happened up a tasty snack.

Years ago I took a winter mountaineering course which involved a couple of days in the field, wearing long underware, wool trousers, snow pants, and a climbing harness overall, and then being roped to two other classmates for most of the day. One of the guys in the class complained of bumping into his cold metal carbineer when he pulled it out to pee. We female class members had no sympathy--at least he could pee without having to remove all of the above layers!

I was looking at something the other day that is a little fold-out cardboard tube so girls can pee standing up. They are only for once off use but could be handy for the worst times.
There seems to be a few sorts.
